How much does tyre rotation cost?
Having your front and rear tyres rotated generally costs between $50 - $100.
This price will usually also include balancing your tyres too.
We have local service providers in , that can rotate your tyres - and a range of mobile service provider technicians too.
If you need any other kind of car service - such servicing and repair quotes - tyre rotations can sometimes be added a reduced rate.
What is tyre rotation?
Tyre rotation is the process of swapping the front and rear tyres. Sometimes, swapping the sides of the tyres is recommended too.
This is generally done because tyres wear at different rates. On most vehicles, front tyres wear quicker than the rears thanks to the fact that they do all the turning, most of the braking, and often much of the acceleration if your car is front-wheel drive. So, by swapping them, you'll get the maximum lifespan out of the tyres on the vehicle.
What are the benefits of tyre rotation?
Since rotating your tyres is optional, it's useful to know why people do it - so you can decide if it represents value for money for you.
1. Saving money
Rotating your tyres will usually result in getting additional miles of wear out of them.
2. Safety
Having tyres that at wearing at similar rates reduces the chance of heavily worn tyres failing - such as a blowout or puncture.
3. Handling
With more uniform wear on your tyres, handling will often be more predictable and safe.
4. Better mileage
Most tyre manufacturers recommend rotation because evenly wearing tyres are better for fuel economy.
5. Reduced road noise
Uneven tyre wear often leads to unwanted road noise - so rotating tyres will generally result in a quieter drive.
6.What does tyre rotation involve?
Generally, rotating tyres involves swapping the fronts with the rears. This is done by removing the wheels from the car and using a tyre mounting machine to quickly remove and replace the tyres.
If the tyres are wearing unevenly from side to side, then tyres that were originally on the drivers side of the vehicle will be swapped to the other side. This means that the wear on the tyres evens itself out.
The only exception to this is when vehicles are fitted with directional tyres. These types of tyres can only be mounted on the wheel one way - so swapping from side to side is not possible.
